A Day in the Life

As a nanny, people usually assume they know what I do all day. I play with cute children, and feed them cute food, and sing cute songs, and read cute books, and put the cute children to sleep. That’s called a babysitter.

I appreciate the people who ask me what my days are like, understand that it’s exhausting and, at times, impossible. I appreciate the people who realize that my job isn’t “cute.” In fact, it’s rather un-cute. It’s dirty (figuratively and literally), and emotional, and tiring, and overwhelming, and frustrating, and all-over-the-place. It’s hard work! But, it’s also humbling, energizing, fun, eye-opening, rewarding, and so amazingly beautiful.
